MAT: Management Aptitude Test

Introduced in 1988 Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is one of the standardized tests for facilitating B-Schools to screen candidates for PGDM admission and related programmes. In the year 2003, the Ministry of HRD India had approved MAT to be a national level test. It is also accepted internationally. Candidates are issued Score Cards that determine the admission input for MAT. If a student is looking forward to getting into any of the 600 B-schools in India, then MAT clearance is a one-way ticket.

MAT is conducted around 4 times a year on a regular basis. It is usually done in the months of February, May, September and December. To appear for this test, graduation in any disciple from a recognized university is mandatory. Students in their final year of B.A, B.Sc, B.Tech, etc. can apply for the same too.

MAT Mode of Exam

There are two kinds of tests available for MAT

Paper Based Test (PBT) - Exams are conducted at a common test center with hundreds of people participating together. The timed test requires the candidate to bring an eraser, pen, HB-pencil and sharpener with him or her.

Computer Based Test (CBT)- For this test, the computers gets connected to a server and it is the candidate’s responsibility to acquire computer skills before sitting for this test.

MAT is objective type test with options; Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are asked.

MAT Syllabus

The syllabus coverage for MAT is lengthy and rather exhaustive. So make sure that you are prepared well in advance before appearing for the same. All the questions are of 40 marks and there are 40 questions for each set. The section details are as follows-

Section 1: Language Comprehension (40 questions for 40 marks)

Types of questions- In this category, you will get all kinds of topics covering verbal reasoning, filling blanks, completing sentences, use of foreign language words in English, etc.

Mode of Exam: Both Online and Offline mode
Courses included: All graduates (or final year students) B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, etc.

Section II: Mathematical Skills (40 questions for 40 marks)

Types of questions- In this set, you will get a set of simple interest calculations, follower by some percentile calculations, trigonometry, set theory, co-ordinate geometry, etc.

Section III: Data Analysis and Sufficiency (40 questions for 40 marks)

Types of questions- Data Interpretation include text-based data along with Data Interpretation using graphs and tables. These can include Graphs representing Area, Venn diagram, Column graphs, Bar Graphs, Line charts, Pie Chart, etc. Critical reasoning followed by Visual reasoning, Assumption-Premise-Conclusion, etc. Some other aspects covered here many include identifying strong and weak arguments, True or False, linear arrangements, Matrix arrangements, etc.

Section IV: General Intelligence and Critical Reasoning (40 questions for 40 marks)

Types of questions- Here you will get questions on word substitution, aptitude, probabilities, Statement and Assumptions, etc.

Section V: Indian and Global Environment respectively (40 questions for 40 marks)

Types of questions- This is more about current affairs like social happenings, Business analytics, books, authors, world records, science, business and top company queries, usually in short essay forms.

MAT Application Process

MAT Registration is completely online. However test is available both modes i.e. Computer Based Test (CBT) and Paper Based Test (PBT). Prospective candidates need to register online for the test when application window opens.

MAT Eligibility Criteria

Anyone who have completed bachelors degree programme or in the final year / final semester of one such programme can apply for MAT.

MAT Admit Card

All provisionally registered candidates both for Paper Based and Computer Based Test can download their Admit Card from AIMA Specific Admit Card is generated both for the candidates opted for the Paper Based Test and for the Computer Based Test. Admit Card contains Candidate's Name, Form No, Roll No, Test Date, Test Time and Test Venue Address. Candidate has to strictly follow the date and time allotted to him/her in the case of Computer Based Test.

MAT Score / MAT Result
